Mumbai and Coffee-inspired fashion : INIFD Bandra

Titled #Mumbai, the students of INIFD Bandra presented streetwear collections with newspaper prints as a standout element on each outfit. The models were seen sporting shorts, jeans and bell bottoms and the typical ‘Dabbawala topi’ with Mumbaiya slang words on it. What added to the show were people dressed as a coolie, rickshawalla, dabbawala, fisherwoman, balloon seller, flower seller, who walked alongside the models to give an authentic feel of the city. With the new ‘Coffee shop culture’ having sprung up in the city, the second half of the show was ‘Flavours of Coffee’. From Macchiato to Greek Frappe, Dark Chocolate Mocha, Double Espresso, Bickering Coffee, the line captured the different textures, types and flavours of coffee. Showstopper Sana Dua, Fbb Colors Femina Miss India 1st Runner up and Miss United Continents India 2017 said

No matter how many times I walk the ramp, I’m always nervous before going on stage. The outfits designed by students are fresh and super interesting; I am glad I was a part of this, sporting this gorgeous gown.

Hot pinks, purples, aqua greens, royal blues dominated the collection that had unconventional prints and floral motifs as underlying themes. The couture was quirkiness personified, from dhoti pants teamed with high-low tops and boots to ribbon work on golden embellished lehengas. Shraddha Shashidhar (Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva Miss Universe India 2017) opened the show in a sexy semi-net and partially see-through golden embellished dress, showstopper actress Kiara Advani donned a well-fitted blouse and a mildly embellished lehenga and choli. Kiara was seen grooving to the music of the show.

A touch of Human Emotions : Horra Timing presents Asif Merchant

The collection focussed on touching diverse human emotions. Feelings and emotions were expressed in the form of tuxs, suits and gowns.  Celebrities such as Waluscha Desouza, Vipul Gupta, Anita Hassanandani and Rohit Reddy walked the “Horra Runway” for the iconic brand while flaunting its bags and watches and donning exclusive designs from the latest Asif Merchant collection. Teamed with accessories like handbags, clutches, wallets and classy watches, the men were dressed in sharp formals; the women, on the other hand, rocked the ramp in classy gowns, and asymmetrical dresses.

“HORRA” in Spanish means ‘time’ and spells panache, perfection & novelty and Horra luxury makes fashion and style accessories which combine the element of vogue, classy embellishments, deep textures, and vibrant colours. The brand offers a wide variety of bags and watches, for both men and women, there is a colour for every season and a style for every occasion to pair with the moods of the buyer.

The ballroom gowns and gowns with trails upped the fashion game and took it to a whole new level altogether. The collection had some bold and very bright colours like red, blue, black and gold. Another highlight of this show was the sexy backs of the gowns. Bigg Boss 11 contestant VJ Benafsha Soonawala closed the show for Eyecandy. Talking about her experience, Benafsha said,

The gown is pretty, sexy and absolutely gorgeous. It has a tinge of princess-like feel and I felt like one while walking the ramp for Eye Candy.

This season, our inspiration is from the beautiful clematis blooms. We have driven inspiration from its shades and it being in full bloom. So, we have incorporated the same with flowers. I think 2018 is all about being brave, forward-thinking and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and Ultra Violet reflects and supports this zeitgeist perfectly.

Floral Motifs and Zari Embroidery : Kalki Fashion

Day 3 of Bombay Times Fashion Week witnessed collections by some really promising talents and one of them was by fashion label KALKI by designer trio Nishit, Saurabh and Shishir Gupta. Ruffles, tassels, structured drapes, corsets and crinkled tulle were the USP of KALKI’s Summer Spring 2018 collection. Soft, pastel hues made the attires a perfect pick for any wedding that is slated to take place during the summers. Closing the show for KALKI was Bollywood actress Yami Gautam, who wrote her own fairy-tale story on ramp in a soft-lavender ballroom gown with a cape attached to it.

Talking about walking the ramp for the first time, Malavika said,

It feels amazing because I admire Falguni and Shane’s work. They come up with amazing deseigns. Walking for BT and that too the finale… I couldn’t have asked for more.
